We took my oldest teen and several of their friends to the NorCal Reptile Expo today and it was an absolute blast. So many gorgeous reptiles to look at and interact with! My oldest came out more certain that they want to go into some kind of scientific field related to animals 🤩

Here's some zooms into the packaging art for my Dimorphodon coin design. This was for the 2021 Mary Anning Coin Collection, from The Royal Mint and the Natural History Museum.

This is the blue belly lizard I rehabilitated.
His name is Everett.
He got stuck in an empty planter that was rained in and was hypothermic. I felt so bad. He must've been in the cold water for days.

Here's a monochrome painting of the straight-tusked elephant, Palaeoloxodon antiquus. It was commissioned for a London festival (2021), because these giants used to roam the land that London now covers. I call this picture Monarch of the Forest. Dr Steven Zhang helped me get the head correct.

To celebrate #WorldWetlandsDay , here is " #Insects and #Reptiles in a Pond" by Itō Jakuchū (Japan, 1716-1800). It's one of 30 hanging silk scrolls from Dōshoku sai-e (Colorful Realm of Living Beings) c. 1757-66, declared a National Treasure of Japan & held by the Museum of the Imperial Collections.

In 202 I supplied artwork to the BBC for the first series/season of Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV Plus. The most successful piece was this section of Mosasaurus skin (@tetzoo was consultant).

In 2020 I won the opportunity to create a series of Dinosauria coins for The Royal Mint and the Natural History Museum, London. There were three coins – Megalosaurus, Hylaeosaurus, and Iguanodon – here's my reconstruction of the latter.

Going to review some of my favorite photos from 2024 as we move into this new year. It's a really nice way to remember some of these cool little moments.
We'll start with my friend the Prairie Lizard sunning on one of the many large logs in the Log Pile. Going to miss these friends
Was? Das neue Jahr ist schon da? Chillen wir erst mal voll ab, oder?

The Los Angeles Zoo hatches its first-ever perentie lizards, one of the largest lizard species in the world.
From @AssociatedPress: "Perentie lizards, or Varanus giganteus, are native to Australia and one of the world’s largest lizards, dwarfed only by the Komodo dragon and a few others."

part 2 of mini - photoshoot with the green anole. In this shot it appears to notice something above it. Maybe a tasty dragonfly?
I will share part 3 in a little bit.
