I dont post tons of "deals" and affiliate links, but a Red Magic 10 Pro for $636.65 is a pretty good score. https://amzn.to/4h6DQqi
A fan cooled, high performance phone, which still has a headphone jack, arriving for hundreds less than most other companies "basic premium" phones.

📲 We recognized that tech has moved from the edges to the very core of #culture, as #mobile innovation shaped a new generation of always online #netizens in a digital environment. (1/2)
IMHO, after the #TeaParty manifestations in September 2009, #Obama’s error was not taking advantage of his #cult of personality, nascent #mobile #video technology of iPhones, #socialmedia, and #townhalls.
The strategy shoulda/coulda/woulda been to just go on the road and let the Creepy Weirdos out themselves on camera in front of friends and neighbors.
There was a reason that hoses used on people at Selma radicalized the #American public through their TV sets.
#History could have rhymed.
Apple is calling the $599 iPhone 16e (formerly SE) a budget phone.
It's almost PhP 40,000. Explains why only 10% of Filipinos own an iPhone.
In rich countries, it's a "phone that just works." For the rest of the world, it is a status symbol that shows how "elite" and "successful" you are.
Apple is truly an aspirational brand: Everyone wants an iPhone but few can afford it. Apple is proving the "walled garden" allegations.

Linux phones are still around, but they haven't replaced Android due to hardware compatibility, app availability, and funding issues. Ubuntu Touch, PostmarketOS, and Mobian continue development, but device support is limited. PinePhone and Librem 5 exist but aren't mainstream-ready. Android’s dominance makes it tough to create a viable alternative, but projects like Waydroid help bridge the gap by running Android apps on Linux phones. #Linux #Mobile #FOSS

Episode 39 of the #postmarketOS #podcast is one of the best podcasts I have listened to in a long time! It's an interview with magdesign, a geek who sold all his projects and tools and belongings to cycle the world with his wife, and uses a #linux #mobile #phone as his main computing device. Funny, inspiring and full of amazing stories from the trip.

A little surprising to me that #Thunderbird #Mobile doesn't have the same #RSS features as the desktop.
I've been using RSS a lot more lately - after quite some time away - and have enjoyed having RSS feeds right in Thunderbird, alongside everything else.
Not a big dealbreaker but a bummer.
You remember #Apple scanning all images on your #mobile device?
If you have an #Android #phone, a new app that doesn't appear in your menu has been automatically and silently installed (or soon will be) by #Google. It is called #AndroidSystemSafetyCore and does exactly the same - scan all images on your device as well as all incoming ones (via messaging). The new spin is that it does so "to protect your #privacy".
You can uninstall this app safely via System -> Apps.

Update on #Friendica access on #mobile: I got it to work with #Pipilo on #iOS and #Tusky on #Android, so I'm all set there. Not sure why it wouldn't work with #Metatext, but I've got *something* that works, so I'm satisfied. And it works OK with #Tweesecake on #PC, too.

Is Samsung losing the plot with the Galaxy S25 Ultra? Reviewer Allison Johnson says the device is still big, still great, but not so “ultra” anymore in this article for @theverge. Here’s her full-blown explanation:

The Fediverse is unique.
My survey asked what your favorite search engine is.
51% said DuckDuckGo, 12% Startpage, 9% Ecosia and 4% Qwant. Only 6% said Google and 1% Bing. 17% said they preferred another search engine, with many mentioning Kagi and Mojeek.
This is quite different from what the market share out there is, which shows how unique you all are here in the Fediverse. You make your own choices and do not follow everyone else. Be proud.

In @Vivaldi, we provide a set of search engine choices. It differs a bit from country to country, but generally we have a nice set of search engines to choose from.
I would advice that you select one of the smaller search engines. They are generally better when it comes to privacy and you are supporting an alternative to Big Tech, although most of them get their search feeds from either Google or Microsoft at this time. That also means that switching from Google or Bing will allow you to get similar search results, while stepping away from Big Tech, so the switching cost should be lower.
So what is your favorite search engine?
