I have become more liberal as I have gotten older, it is the only real option for decent folks. As Bill Clinton once wisely said, "Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good." Lack of education and the conservative attack on any non-parochial education explains a lot. Ignorance and lack of questioning leads to authoritarianism; it is all about power and controlling people's minds by teaching them not to think. Interesting article attached.

I've tried a few times to attend church over the last few years. I'm not #christian but living in the south I often feel that is my only way to make connections with people or have any community.
I think I'm finally realizing, however, that I have way too much #ptsd from past negative experiences.

I’m so tired of the “Rural Conservative” stereotype. I know I’m not the only one.
Whelp, I was too lazy(add) to get around to finding a new instance before my old instance was shut down (Yeah THAT one). The signs were coming for a long time, I just had other priorities. Now I am trying to recreate my account and connections from there.

My name is Claire, and I am a #transgender woman. Although I have sort of known I was a woman since early puberty, I didn't accept it and decide to transition until my mid 50s. I have been fully out as a #TransWoman and living my life as a woman since May, 2024. My transition is still ongoing and is a big part of my life. My posts here are going to talk a lot about transition. I talk a lot about my transition in person too. I am still attracted to women, so that makes me a #lesbian
Besides being a hot mess of a #trans girl, here's some things about my life:
* I work in tech. I am a Principal Engineer for a big tech corporation. I work on and around media streaming tech.
* I am passionate about #music and especially #LiveMusic. I have eclectic tastes and fangirl about many different genres, mainly contemporary ones. #Indie, #IndieFolk, #LatinPop, #Reggaeton, #alternative, #flamenco, #punk, #NewWave, #PostPunk, #industrial, #goth, #DarkWave.
* #cycling is my main way of staying physically active (besides going to dance clubs with my friends), I try to ride at least 3 days a week. Message me if you want to follow my #strava account.
* My politics are #liberal, with mainly #leftist leanings, but most of my hard core lefty friends think I am too conservative. I generally don't get into politics here except for #LGBTQA , #feminism , and overall #humanrights
* I used to study #photography, but it's been a while since I've been active. I just bought a couple of film cameras that I hope will inspire me to shoot more. Most likely any photography posts will be from my mundane account
* I have 2 dogs, that I co-parent with my ex-wife.
We have to stop believing performative progressivism. As an academic, I believe one of the most insidious areas of this is the domain of #university upper administration. We're getting better at spotting the "liberal washing" done by corporations, but universities seem to fool us (Americans) every time.
Provosts, presidents, deans, directors, and all their associate- and assistant- flavored lesserlings are very good at saying the "right" #liberal things, most of the time. They always "support" DEI initiatives, marginalized students, refugees, immigrants, crime victims, etc.
However, as pretty much every morality thinker ever has said, actions speak louder. Upper administrators at US universities overwhelmingly
- fight against workers' rights
- prioritize money over other goals
- prioritize positive PR over true change (see previous point)
- avoid any personal risk (even minor) in supporting the values they profess
- throw lower-status/lower-power people under the bus
- indulge in conspicuous consumption and ever-increasing organizational income inequality
- reject science and morality when those things threaten admin careers
- protect their own class at the expense of others
- change any and all purported values as politics and finances dictate
- aggressively protect authoritarian hierarchies with themselves at the top
- stifle criticism and dialogue when it implicates the systems from which they benefit
- use coercive violence by police to achieve their goals when all else fails
When you see a headline saying that a "university" did something, that almost always means a president did it (note: if you read a provost did something, that means the president ordered it; a provost's job is to do the things that would make a president less popular if done directly).
Universities are made up of at least three separate groups:
1. Workers: Faculty and staff
2. Consumers: Students*
3. Management: Upper administration
The dynamics are incredibly predictable.
*I only call Students "consumers" here because they are treated that way by every administration I've worked for or heard of

In an article by Jonathan #Stray, senior scientist at the UC Berkeley Center for Human-Compatible AI, I saw this chart that positions US Media across a line that goes from a far liberal audience to a far conservative one.
