The "What did you do" email was a clarifying test of minimal leadership
This whole exercise was profoundly stupid and insulting, but also oddly helpful in showing which agencies have at least some minimal leadership.First came the "HR" email, which was obviously--at best--a giant waste of time. Some agency leaders took the opportunity to immediately say no. Then, with some precedent established, more leaders could feel comfortable saying no. Other (lesser) leaders could advise holding off on replying until we knew more. Other (still lesser) leaders could advise to reply, but then amend that advice once OPM officially declared that replies were not necessary. And then there were those like mine at the Department of Transportation, who sent an anonymous message at 9AM (long after other agencies said no) directing us to reply and giving no additional guidance after the whole charade had been formally called off.At the start of the weekend, I wasn't entirely sure what kind of leadership we had. Were they quietly fighting for us? Were they working behind the scenes to get the probationary employees reinstated? Would they have our backs if/when things got worse? I didn't know. But now I do. And while I would prefer that my agency were not being led by feckless weasels, I do appreciate the knowing.

Everything is turning out wrong.
I feel so helpless. I worked hard. I joined the military. I got an education. I got a dream job helping people and doing what I love. I lived a quiet and modest life. Then I got fired last week. I'm just at a loss. What's the point of the social contract if someone I never met and has more wealth than I could possibly imagine can just take that away from me? I moved here for this job, now I stand to lose everything. It seems like our country's leadership is just laughing and golfing. (Note: I'm a disabled vet).

United States Marine Corps veteran, VA disability rating, federal probationary employee that was 6 days away from end of probation, with an Outstanding Performance Review rating, Award Certificate in eOPF file ($ bonus) for my Performance rating. Management chain put me as green mission critical for retention and still I was illegally terminated for poor performance. I will provided redacted performance review, honorable discharge DD214, VA disability certificate, proof of award certificate and termination letter. I am not a poor performer. I am one of the best and brightest and hard working that the federal service needs and wants. I am a patriot, who believes in the mission of my agency and working my tail off to produce quality results that impact my fellow federal servants who directly service veterans needs and our nations tax paying citizens and still I was illegally terminated. I am fed up with the lies. I voluntarily put my life on the line for this great nation and would do it again. I'm going to work tomorrow just to get fired.
I started in my current position in mid-july. I had just gotten out of the military, and this was my first job after separating. I moved across the country to a tiny town with no other prospects, and no family within 1000 miles.We got sent home early Friday, right before a town hall that put the news that probationary employees would be fired.I've lived with that hanging over my head all weekend.Tomorrow, I'll get up at 6am, report to work by 6:30, just like I have for the past 7 months. Except this time, I won't be bringing a lunch, and I expect to be home before the sun rises.Wish me luck.
