Wildflowers with two fuzzy furry orange insects on them. The fur looks very like a bumblebee, but the legs and antennae are scarab-like.

You and your fellow springtails are peacefully feeding on organic debris next to a stream when suddenly a dark shape rapidly approaches from beneath a leaf. It's a predatory, semi-aquatic rove beetle of the genus Stenus whose appearance causes the springtails to release their furculas, leaping in random directions to escape. The defeated rove beetle raises its abdomen in frustration and resumes the hunt.

First Christmas Beetle - Lamprima aurata - of the season. This one is reddish gold in the sunlight but when moved to the shade it looks green. Last year I mainly saw pink ones.

Cucumber Beetle, looks a bit like a Lady Beetle except that it’s yellow. This one is looking straight at you, apparently frowning, antennae cocked at a jaunty angle. She’s perched atop an Aster blossom, white petals and a yellow disc.

Zoom on embroidered moss in different green, brown and whitish shades done using French knot stitch. The sporophytes are made from fragile green wire and the capsules are tiny brown and green glass seed beads. The moss was applied on the bark of a 150-year-old oak that had died from the terrible droughts in France.

Asian oak weevils (_Cyrtepistomus castaneus_) are not as showy as the sparkly green _Polydrusus_, but the subtle green-blue iridescence of their scales complements their warm brown shell very attractively. Found recently in High Park's oak savannah.
