Review. "Exercise intolerance and slow recovery from fatigue after physical exertion are hallmark symptoms of ME/CFS. From a bioenergetic perspective, these exertional symptoms could be explained by the rapid depletion and slow regeneration of ATP, slow oxidative metabolism of fuel substrates, and increased oxidative stress in skeletal muscle, all secondary to impaired mitochondrial function."
