This is a low contrast black and white street photo of a People's Republic of China Army soldier on ceremonial guard duty standing to attention in front of a giant portrait of Mao Zedong. In the centre of the photo is the young soldier dressed smartly in a dark uniform, wearing a cap and white gloves. He is standing to attention in a small glass booth a little over a metre high with a hinged glass door left open to the left, I imagine this is to give some comfort in the bitter winter and scorching summer. Surrounding the soldier and booth are four silver posts supporting a short length of light chain that surrounds the booth. Behind and blurred out of focus is a wide street with one car on the right side. Beyond that is the dark wall of a building with a crowd of people beside it. Above is the giant portrait of Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China.
