The Acer Negundo, a.k.a. Box Elder or Ash Leaved Maple is, as a gardener, kinda my nemesis, or perhaps, since I love all trees, I should call it the "loyal opposition". They're native to North America but rather weedy and invasive in a lot of other parts of the world.
Anyway, they are classified as "soft" maples and they have an interesting trait in that they release a kind of immune response to injury or fungal/insect attack that turns the wood red. I suspect it will fade out as it dries, but it might look pretty regardless.
