@ErikvanStraten I didn’t read the rest of Shalev’s tirade but the premise of Israel’s revenge war on Gaza *IS* the memory of the holocaust (i.e never again, though they briefly tested the waters with Hamas-ISIS) as if Hamas was able or going to exterminate all the Jews in Palestine. The rhetoric around Arabs and Nazis started already with Ben Gurion. When Begin evoked it drew a considerable amount of objection from survivors and family for the diminishing of the memory of the holocaust. Then came war criminal Netanyahu and claimed the final solution was the idea of the Mufti of Jerusalem. Talking about context, that’s literal holocaust denialism. Weaponizing the holocaust is definitely not new and Israeli politicians and media are definitely the worst in that respect.

BTW I’m sure you’re familiar with Friedlander’s
“kitsch and death” about the cultural representations of the holocaust . The use of these images on social media in the way you describe would definitely be of interest (the book was published in 1982). Though other than a fig leaf for Israel’s relentless crimes against humanity (since 1948), it’s a phenomenon that existed possibly also irrespectively.

No, I'm not.

I demand equal human rights for every individual. It may be hard to prove that a grownup is inoccent, but young children unconditionally always are.

My government lies that they're asking Israel to stop the genocide + ethnic cleansing. They also lie that they demand from Israel to cooperate with establishing a two-state solution.

In reality, they're unconditionally supporting Netanyahu. Geert Wilders in particular does that, but at least two of the other political parties (4 in total) in my government, VVD and BBB, are outspoken fans of Israel. Mark Rutte (now NATO chief) was heavily influenced by Zionists.

In particular because my government is complicit to making the life of more than one million children unbearable (part of them lost parents, limbs or even their life) I will try to keep raising my voice.

The fact that hardly anyone seems to listen to me makes it hard sometimes - but that's nothing compared to how abandoned and even cursed Palestinians, Lebanese and other Arab people must feel.

Perhaps I should read more books on the subject, but I'm not sure how useful that would be. IMO, in fact the "issue" is not complicated at all: human rights of each and every individual should be respected and protected. Always, unconditionally. If children become victims, simply no excuse can exist.

Hence, what the Israeli Destruction Forces and Israeli colonists do, has nothing to do with mutual respect. And you're right, this started long before Oct. 7, 2023.

I cannot imagine how traumatized the (more than one million) Gazan children must be right now. I find it incomprehensible that my government supports this suffering, and that hardly anyone objects. Instead naive idiots are boosting Israeli propaganda.
