I got advice about this from a cellist (thanks again @Gaolaitch), but no response yet from any #violin players. Anyone out there willing to comment? If so, I’ve also added 2 more bars of lead-up. The whole passage looks like this now. My goal is to achieve about this much energy and motion without wasting the performers’ practice time or making them hate me. (This bit is necessary but not the main thing going on when it happens.)
