Pretty in its own way…a violet oil beetle I think, busy munching on a plant stem.

Photo of a large beetle with an elongated abdomen and almost ridiculously short wing cases (like a waistcoat that won’t button up). The beetle is mainly black but the wing cases are iridescent blue-black, as are large round spots on the centre of each abdomen segment, legs, and bobbly antennae. It is leaning over a fallen twig and chewing the stem of a leafy plant on a dirt path.
