I'm going to have to install a DeltaChat server now, don't I?
@gmc You don't have to install the server, you can use a public #chatmail server or setup a normal email server with e.g. @doncow if you want to self-host your email. You can also setup a #chatmail server just for yourself and then close new account registration if you don't want to offer it as a service for others but want to have push notifications working.
I tend to want to host my own stuff :)
I do run my own mailserver already, but I don't think I'd want to use that for it.
Anyway, I'm putting it on the list to check out! It's a rather cool concept, I've been thinking about something just like it a lot over the past years.
@gmc @adbenitez if you just configure a dedicated chat-address on your existing e-mail server you should be fine. Your mail server needs proper DKIM signing, SPF or DMARC is not neccessary.
It's true that you don't get push notifications then but you might have a phone that doesn't require it maybe? On android delta typically works also without push notifications.
