Audience expectations have changed in the five decades I've been writing. This is illustrative. Makes one think about how to or not tune stories. #Writer #Author #Fiction #WritersOfMastodon #WritingCommunity https://www.upworthy.com/i-convinced-my-gen-z-kids-to-watch-dead-poet-s-society-and-their-angry-reactions-surprised-me?utm_source=flipboard&utm_content=upworthy/magazine/Upworthy
@sfwrtr I may be a Joneser, but my perception has thankfully been sufficiently fluid that I've has similar reactions to re-watching more than one classic film. It's weird to look at a favourite scene and think "OMG how can I ever have been so crass to think that abuse was funny?"
@alan @sfwrtr This part really struck me:
"I realized that Gen X youth valued individuals going against the old, outdated system and doing their own thing, whereas Gen Z values the dismantling of the system itself."
Even as a GenX kid, I had a powerfully developed sense of justice in regard to systemic injustice. But my 12yo GenAlpha daughter arrived on this planet to destroy the patriarchy singlehandedly if she has to, and she's not afraid to tell anyone about it. I never had *that* fire.
