@bullivant one of my schoolmates dad's was head of the ANC military wing: holed up in Zimbabwe fighting this lot in the 1980s. It's why he was a pall-bearer at Nelson Mandela's funeral and nobody in Musk's family was.
@bullivant key point: being a white South African under apartheid didn't force you to support the regime -you were perfectly free to oppose it and welcome to do so.
Though if you did: your family did have to leave the county as political exiles.
