So the back story. About a month ago, I set up my own self-hosted single-user Mastodon* instance using @yunohost and @gotosocial .
I pulled my contacts over from my old Mastodon account at @Vivaldi .
Unfortunately, around 1000+ contacts didn't pull across (I'm guessing simply because the instance was so new).
Anyways, 30 days later, I tried again, and this time it appears to have (mostly) worked 😁

* Before you type the comment, yes I know GtS isn't Mastodon, but I'm accessing it using the same apps I used for my old Mastodon account to mainly talk to people on Mastodon, so functionally it serves the same purpose.
@_elena @vincent @Aedius @yunohost @gotosocial Especially if it's for a single-user instance, I'd definitely recommend GtS.
I mainly accessed Mastodon through Tusky on Android and Tokodon on my computer (running KDE Neon Linux). And other than search, the experience has been much the same as Mastodon within those apps.
A few tips (apologies, I speak Lithuanian, English, and some German, but not French unfortunately!):
1) Under the default cache settings, the storage use on your server will go up a lot for the first 7 days. Don't panic, it will stabilise. If it gets too high, you can adjust the number of days images are cached down. Four works for me.
2) Follow some tags and even a small instances using FediBuzz: https://relay.fedi.buzz/
3) For the first week or so, it's worth mostly posting from your GoToSocial and then sharing it from your Mastodon account before you pull your followers over.
4) It's also worth following people you interact with or whose posts you follow on GtS before the big migration.
5) It's worth doing a post explaining you've set up a new instance and asking them to share it to expand your server's reach. Most people will be happy to help you out by sharing.
6) Keep regular server backups!
7) If you redirect your Mastodon account to your GtS account, it may take a couple of attempts to migrate all your contacts across, especially if it's a new server.
8) Follow @gotosocial and @dumpsterqueer
Definitely worth doing, in my opinion ☺️
