@SherBeareth Lectrr did one too
@SherBeareth From his Insta:
@murphycartoons — as new President of @editorialcartoonists — suggested cartoonists do a finished version of the spiked work in their own style in support.
Here's my take. Less a faithful redo of Ann's cartoon, more a new piece that pays homage to (and riffs on) it to instead provide new commentary on Ann's resignation and the folly of trying to appease would-be dictators.
I am enjoying the cartoons that are raining down on the Washington Post today.
Could not have happened to a more deserving institution.
@SherBeareth I must have missed something? I know Bezos gave money to Trump, but what is with the lady with the paint brush?
@SherBeareth Reminds me more of Jabba the Hutt with princess Leia ...
@atarifrosch Love the Jabba the Hutt slug comparison, and Leia certainly had Ann’s smarts. Maybe we need a Jabba strategy for Dear Leader. I wouldn’t happen to know what that would be, I’m a Star Wars ignoramus. 😬
@Leefellerguy That is Ann Telnaes, a now former editorial cartoonist for WAPO. She resigned a few days ago after management refused to print her latest submission. It depicted billionaires holding money and being sycophants in front of Trump elevated on a sculpture stand. One is easily identified as Jeff Bezos (WAPO owner).
Because of her treatment, other cartoonists flocked to pen their disapproval and bash Bezos. People are outraged.
@SherBeareth Thanks, I did not make the connection, though I recall she resigned and now it makes sense. I recognized Bezos and Trump. Also now realize why the paint brush. Me dense.
@Leefellerguy You’re not dense!! I merely happened to see her own explanatory post sooner than you did. Ten lashes with a wet noodle for putting yourself down, Fellerguy. Might have to keep an eye on you for your own good lol.
@Edelruth Bezos has earned the mockery! It was brilliant of comic artist leadership to request that they reply in kind.
It sickens me that WAPO has come to this, as a former DC resident and as an American. This is supposedly a paper of record.
Not anymore.
@SherBeareth @Edelruth WAPO, NYT, LATimes, all the media has an agenda George Carlin said this years ago:
“Keep in mind, The news media are not independent; they are sort of a bulletin board and public relations firm for the ruling class-the people who run things. Those who decide what news you will or will not hear are paid by, and“ tolerated purely at the whim of, those who hold economic power.
@Leefellerguy Love Carlin for many reasons, but especially for his perspicacity on media and the ruling classes. Thanks for posting this, it’s much needed. 😉
@EchteNachtraaf Also excellent! Bezos is having a very bad press day. He will need to split a bottle of single-malt with Tim Cook this coming weekend.
Shame to see billion-ayahs so mocked and maligned. 😉
@EchteNachtraaf And huge thanks for that, much appreciated.
