Inspired by the toot from @matt303 - here's a dreadful photo of me in about 1978.
If I remember correctly, I was doing T4 (Thyroxine) assays using radioactive Iodine on serum samples. This would have been using the Amersham International testing kits. The machine / display may well have been some sort of geiger counter.
The photo was definately taken at the old Papworth Hospital in Papworth Everard in #Cambridgeshire
This was a very strange time in our lives.
Although we were humming along nicely, my direct boss was an alcoholic who would dissapear for days at a time, and although I was young and relatively inexperienced, I was still the most experienced person in the lab, so I was trying to keep the service running,
They were finally sacked and I was advised not to apply for the job - but no one thought to tell me that I was in line to run the new lab at Hinchingbrook Hospital.
Sacha had a miscarriage, and that sent us into a tail-spin.
And we were learning to live in rural fenland when we'd both been city birds all our lives.
How did we get from there to here?
Young me: "Life is about planning to do something, doing it, moving on to the next goal, it's vital everything goes right"
Older me: "Life is full of random stuff you've no control over, enjoy the good bits and try not to stress over stuff outside your control, be kind to those you meet along the way"

Yes.
I was taught that you can make life decisions with your head or heart. Neither is right or wrong, you just need to understand which you are doing for your mental health.
As I have got older, I realise that you do this in an environment of random variables outside your control. It's all tough.
