Contrary to popular (entirely justified) fear, the executuve branch of the US government can't actually do any ol' wacky thing it wants. A lot of lawyers and judges are going to be kept very busy for the next few years going, "uh, yeah, you can't do that, legally speaking, dude".
(Of course the judiciary has been, by design, pretty heavily stacked with judges who are willing to blow off the law and allow wildly illegal shit to happen anyway, but not *all* of them will.)
